Cross posted from the mailing list. Just exploring the site.
I stopped by to check things out for craft night. Loved it, became a member 1st thing in the morning. Thank you for the warm welcome everyone. I hadn't brought a project, because I just wanted to check things out, and everyone was super friendly helpful, etc.
I've primarily been a computer programmer for ~20 years. Longer if you count typing in basic programs into a VIC20 from magazines. So that is the focus of my tinkering. I've dabbled with Arduino, Beagle Board, etc. Embedded/Microcontrollers interest me a lot, but I haven't had driving project to get me deep into it.
I'm not great at putting together a curriculum, but I am good at patience and answering questions.
This is just quick and off the cuff
Areas I'm strong in can help with:
- most computer related issues, anything but mac. I just don't get it.
- networking
- programming
- C++
- C#
- SQL
- Many others to a smaller degree
- Low Voltage Wiring
- fixing things
- problem solving
1/2 Decent Skills:
- Car Mechanic
- Wood Work
Areas I'd like to improve:
- RF
- Robotics
- Metal Work
Projects I'd love to do:
WWVB NTP Server: Probably on an arduino with a network shield. Possibly something more heavyweight, but NTP is a light service.
A robot that makes GridBeam. More a drill press with a feeder. Ripping the wood doesn't take too long.
