SYN Shop - The Las Vegas Hackerspace

Amazing! This class has been packed every time we run it. This class is limited to 25 participants, so RSVP now to get in!

The world is abuzz with credit card sized computers that are inexpensive and easy enough for home hobbyists, artists, and professionals to use.  One such computer is the Arduino, created by a group of Italian researchers and released freely to the world.

This course will introduce non-programmers and experienced programmers alike to the Arduino, in many of its forms. (Over 5 different types will be demonstrated live!)  We will see how the Arduino communicates and what it can do.    We will have live demonstrations of professional kits where others have used Arduino and similar technology as a core component.

Then we will demonstrate how to install the free Arduino software on Windows, Mac, and Linux and you will get a chance to make LEDs blink, fade and pulse, alone and in sequence, including multi color LEDs.  You will also get the Arduino to play music, turn a servo, and react to buttons, knobs, and sensors.

Students are encouraged to bring their own Arduino and wireless capable laptop.  Sample code, schematics, and courseware will be freely provided.  Our fine hosts, Pololu Robotics and Electronics, have Arduino boards and kits available at http://www.pololu.com....   We recommend the Uno boards for beginners.  If you purchase them online before 2pm on the day of the class and use a local address, then you can select the pickup option and your order will be available at the class.  Please arrive a bit early to pick up and open your new toy!  Note that the board by itself does not come with a USB cable, so please bring one of your own.

Please note that seating is limited to 25 students to allow everyone to get hands on experience. Multiple instructors will be available to help everyone get the most out of the class. Don't worry if you don't get in this time.  Join us on http://www.meetup.com... and you will be notified of every SYN Shop class event.  We will be holding these classes regularly.

There is no charge for this Introduction to Arduino class, but donations to SYN Shop are always welcome. Or purchase a T-Shirt at https://synshop.org/s... and show your support!
